ALS is also due for some more updates in the somewhat near future and a few small improvements will be ready for public beta soon as well. Feedback, feature requests and complaints should be directed to the ALS forums.

I already posted this announcement on the Scriptalicious Blog but I thought it was worth sharing here as well. For a few months now IPN errors have caused orders to sit in PENDING status until they can be manually processed (which can be, well, a process). The IPN handler has been updated and tested and is now processing PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN’s) so orders will be activated instantly upon payment. Yay!

Any orders placed prior to this update should have been activated, and any orders placed in the future will be automatically activated once PayPal payment is complete!. This fix will ensure that payments are processed instantly in the future. Submit your comments and feedback in the Scriptalicious forums announcement thread.

According to the Jelsoft announcement:

…it is difficult to exploit the XSS flaw, and the potential for exposure and damage is limited…

However, the implications of the flaw are not entirely clear in the announcement. Has anybody out there had problems with this cross-site scripting error?

Many vBulletin owners have still yet to upgrade to vBulletin 3.7.0 so this is a good time to jump right to the new version. Let’s look at what’s different in vBulletin 3.7.1.

Control deletion of social groups

Customizable delimiter used for thread tags

Customizable “good word” and “bad word” lists for tags

Visitor messages and picture comments fully support ignore (the “Tachy Goes to Coventry” feature.

Reduced memory usage for uploads

If you’re like me, you’re wondering what the hell is Tachy Goes to Coventry. This is just a strange name for the ignore system. From what I can find, the phrase “sending someone to Coventry” means to silence them. Tachy is apparently someone who needed to be silenced.

cPanel just announced the release of cPanel 11.23 which focuses on some key issues with cPanel. According to cPanel’s blog announcement the cPanel 11.23 release focuses on memory usage, mail efficiency, backups and users. cPanel server admins are getting pretty excited about the performance increases in cPanel VPS optimized, and 11.23 addresses memory usage with VPS optimized and Tailwatch.

The mail system is also updated in several respects, including support for Roundcube as a Webmail alternative, adding the ability to send emails from the IP address on an account, and a new option to run SPF at SMTP time. Backups and transfers have been updated in cPanel 11.23 as well to include more files and better performance by using WHM as opposed to rsync. Some of the user account specific changes included in 11.23 are subdomain proxies for non-port 80 services, SSL expiration notifications, and updated versions of phpMyAdmin and other built-in products. Overall an interesting release and worth checking out the official blog announcement at cPanel.net.

No single human being can carry out one million substantial tasks daily, but it can certainly feel like there are a million things not getting done each day. After years of trying every complex approach in the book (okay, not every one, but quite a few), I use a dead simple tool for handling my daily tasks. The notepad.

I have often struggled with completing tasks on time, keeping track of projects, or just being simply overwhelmed by all of the work involved in daily business. If you are self-employed, run your own business, do contracting work or just freelance on the side, you probably face the challenge of tracking dozens, hundreds or even thousands of various tasks. From basic accounting and business operations to complex projects and campaigns, it can be a lot to manage.

Sure, you need SRS documents and folders full of project materials and specifications… but you also need to keep track of your day to day business to stay on top of things. For me, I have found that it’s as simple as organizing my tasks with a pencil and paper instead of juggling software apps and navigating my Pocket PC to check every little task or scratch a quick note down. Whenever I come up with a new task, I jot it down at the end of today’s list. I try to prioritize the list and scratch items off as I make progress through the day. Each day I’ll write the list again using the previous day’s incomplete and new tasks.

The added benefit of doing it this way is the short break you get from the computer, where you can let your mind wander a bit and even do some brainstorming. Not only that, but it’s quite satisfying to tick, check, or slash items off the list as you make progress.

In other words, Digg is pretty cool because other people vote on the interesting stuff. Nothing is worse than looking at the upcoming section and seeing 23 diggs from the same user pointing to 23 different junk products and canned affiliate sites. This is why the Popular section is so much more SPAM free. We can all play a part in making it a better experience for each other, and I’m trying more often to reach out and digg somebody where a digg is due.

Dr. Seuss was not harmed in the making of this post.

Google has been making some serious steps toward global domination lately, and one such step is Google Health: The Internet’s one-stop-shop for centralizing health information about the public. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of going digital, but Google worries me sometimes.

Fortunately Google comforts us with the message “Google Health puts you in charge of your health information. It’s safe, secure, and free.” Hey, I feel better. Okay, I’m still not signing up.

This excerpt from Google and HIPPA is somewhat troublesome:

…and may share without authorization in certain limited circumstances, such as: [...] With contractors and vendors operating solely on Google’s behalf

How on Earth is that considered a limited circumstance?

My honest opinion is that this type of service could actually be great for some people - let’s hope it all goes well. What do you think?

Just what would our world be without lasers anyway? A very unlasery place I imagine.

So remember folks wish your friendly neighborhood laser a happy birthday today, and don’t forget it’s incredible contribution the next time you use your CD or DVD player, shop at a grocery store, or use any one of a million products worldwide reaping the benefit of laser technology.
