Creating Successful New Products

Posted on May 5th, 2009 by Gabriel Harper

Creating great products is easy if you identify a problem. Like many others I’m willing to pay for a good solution if the need is great enough. Identifying the deepest problem for your customers and developing a great solution is the recipe for a successful product.

Great ideas often stem from a great need. Fulfilling a great need is the essence of a successful product. There’s no doubt a great product sells itself. How do we figure out what people need? Often it means finding our their greatest problems.

Some things we don’t realize how much we need until they’re invented (television, for example), but often our needs are much more obvious. If we have a problem, we need a solution.

When your product solves a great problem, customers embrace it, and the idea spreads on it’s own. Understanding your customer’s needs means understanding their problems in addition to their desires.

Marketing a great product means spreading the love, not shoving down people’s throats. If you find yourself pushing your products too hard, it might be worth thinking about what your customers really need from your products.
