Thursday, May 7th, 2009

TinyMCE is a free WYSIWYG editor with two visual components – themes and skins. TinyMCE themes are very complex to customize but you can make your own TinyMCE theme. If you just want to customize the look & feel a little bit, you’re better off creating a TinyMCE skin.

Web 2.0 and The Evolving Web

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Many definitions of Web 2.0 are floating around. I answered what is Web 2.0 on Scriptalicious recently as such:

Web 2.0 refers to the second and latest major phase of evolution for the World Wide Web. It encapsulates a general shift to newer, more socially and technologically evolved Websites and Web services.

Why OpenOffice.org Can’t Compete With Microsoft Office

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

OpenOffice.org is an awesome alternative to Microsoft Office, and it’s completely free. OpenOffice.org matches Microsoft Office on almost every feature that a typical user needs. Unfortunately, it’s still destined for failure. There’s too much “open source” in OpenOffice.org – people don’t want a geek tool, they want a friendly tool. OO is not polished for the typical end-user, and at this rate is destined to always be the underdog.

What is Ajax?

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

The question is asked time and time again, and not always clear even to those who are working with Ajax! The term Ajax is short for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML. It was coined in 2005 by Jesse James Garrett. Ajax is not a specific programming language or technology. Ajax is a Web development technique. Ajax brings dynamic data interactivity to Web pages. For example, a Web client sorts a column of data, and the data is automatically changed with live server data without reloading the entire page.

Scriptalicious Payment System Updated

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

I already posted this announcement on the Scriptalicious Blog but I thought it was worth sharing here as well. For a few months now IPN errors have caused orders to sit in PENDING status until they can be manually processed (which can be, well, a process). The IPN handler has been updated and tested and is now processing PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN’s) so orders will be activated instantly upon payment. Yay!

vBulletin Prices Increase With Licensing Changes

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Jelsoft just announced a bunch of changes in their pricing scheme. They must have read my blog about whether vBSEO is worth the money and decided they could charge more! :) While not a huge increase, it’s enough to make me shake my head as I now run several vBulletin forums. That’s the nature of business though, and hopefully Jelsoft will continue to improve their software and make use of all that extra cash.
